Yeast, Gotta Get It Outta My Life!

Oh, the burning, the itching, the cheesy discharge, if you haven’t figured it out yet I’m describing a vaginal yeast infection.  Three quarters of women have unfortunately experienced at least one of them during their lives. O.K. so you go to the pharmacy or your doctor and get some cream and that usually takes care of it for the short term. But what about women and men that chronically suffer from yeast infections?  Long term use of medications may actually cause resistance and they don’t address the root of the problem which is an overgrowth of yeast fungi (Candida Albicans).   So, is there a cure for chronic yeast infections?  Absolutely.  There are many natural treatments available for treating and curing yeast infections. Raw garlic, plain yogurt and cranberries are an effective natural way to treat yeast infections because they help to reduce the fungi and put your body back into balance. A word about using yogurt.  You must use a probiotic yogurt (it will be on the label) and it must be plain.  The reason is fruit flavored yogurt typically has added sugar and yeast fungi thrive on sugar. Yogurt can be either eaten or in the case of a vaginal infection used as a suppository or placed on the vulva (the area outside of the vagina) to reduce the swelling and itching. For those who have systemic Candida Albicans a complete change in diet may be the only way to put your body back into balance with healthy levels of yeast. Reducing or eliminating white flour, sugar and processed foods and increasing whole, unprocessed foods in your diet is one way to reduce an overgrowth of yeast.
